I have been a 'rail enthusiast' from a very early age, and ever since the annual family holiday to Llandudno commenced in the mid 1970's, have had a love affair with those whistling beasties the class 40.
I can still remember the excitement and anticipation as we reached Crewe on the Euston to Llandudno, first seeing the line up on the diesel shed and frantically trying to note down all the numbers and then hoping for one of the whistlers to replace the electric on our train, and not one of those boring 47's.
Apologies for the lack of info on some of the photos - it seems recording dates (and sometimes loco number!) were not a strong point of mine.
Finally, just a thankyou to everyone who helps to keep 40145 on the mainline, fantastic work, surely the best kept loco in the UK. And long may it continue. |
